A New Year's Eve wedding costs more at most venues, because December 31 is priced like a Saturday or higher, whatever day of the week it falls on.
This year that matters more than usual: December 31, 2026 is a Thursday, the cheapest night of the week at most venues, and New Year's Eve pricing wipes that saving out. Below are the venues in our curated selection that publish what they charge for the night, from $3,400 for an Omaha ballroom to $20,000 in rent and drinks for an Atlanta one, along with the venues that will not book it at all, and the closing times that decide whether you get a midnight countdown. Every price and rule below was checked against the venue's own published terms in October 2026.
Are New Year's Eve Weddings More Expensive
Yes, at nearly every venue that publishes a rule. The pattern is the same everywhere: New Year's Eve is charged as a Saturday, or as a Saturday plus a holiday fee. At the four venues below that print both prices, the night costs $2,100 to $5,000 more than an ordinary night in the same room that month.

What Venues Charge for New Year's Eve
Very few venues put a New Year's Eve price in writing; most say "inquire" or "let's talk." These four do, and each one is worth a look on its own merits.
The Paxton Ballroom, Omaha, Nebraska. The ballroom of the 1882 Paxton Hotel, restored in 2007, with Art Deco detailing, chandeliers, a built-in stage and room for 200 seated1. Its rate card is the plainest example of the rule: weekdays $1,300, Saturday $3,400, New Year's Eve $3,400. On a Thursday, that is $2,100 more for the same room. Events end by midnight, so the countdown is the last thing that happens. The venue is also advertising free room rental on its remaining 2026 dates; ask whether December 31 is one of them.
Josephine Butler Parks Center, Washington, D.C. A 1927 Renaissance-revival mansion overlooking Meridian Hill Park, with one of the city's largest ballrooms and wood-burning fireplaces, run by a nonprofit whose programs the rental fee supports2. New Year's Eve "is charged as a holiday and peak Saturday"3: the $9,400 peak Saturday rate plus a $2,000 holiday fee4, so $11,400, against $6,500 for an ordinary Saturday in its winter off-season. In return it is the only venue we found that stays open later for the night: the latest end time is 1 a.m., "with the exception of New Years Eve (must end by 2:00 AM)."
Summerour Studio, Atlanta, Georgia. An 8,400-square-foot space designed to evoke a Tuscan villa, with a mezzanine, a courtyard and a rooftop terrace that looks at the Atlanta skyline5. Its 2026 sheet gives New Year's Eve its own line: $7,000 rental plus a $5,000 beverage minimum. A December Monday to Thursday is $4,500 plus $2,500, so on a Thursday New Year's Eve you commit $5,000 more before you have poured a drink. Events end at midnight, with load-out until 1 a.m.
The Biltmore Ballrooms, Atlanta, Georgia. The Georgian Ballroom was the main entertainment space of the historic Biltmore Hotel and seats up to 300 with a dance floor6. Its 2027 sheet prices New Year's Eve at $10,000 rental plus a $10,000 beverage minimum. December 31, 2027 is a Friday, and a December Friday is $8,000 plus $8,000, so the night costs $4,000 more than the Friday before it and $2,000 more than a December Saturday. It is one of the few venues that sells time after midnight: $500 an hour for events ending after 12 a.m.
Two more venues confirm the premium without printing it. Contigo Ranch near Fredericksburg, Texas, a ranch that books one wedding at a time and sleeps 54 on the property, warns that "Holiday Weekends will incur a price increase," naming New Year's Eve first, on top of a peak-season rate of $15,900 Friday to Sunday or $7,200 Monday to Thursday7. Clementine Hall in Nashville, a historic hall rebuilt in 2018 that folds tax, security and insurance into one price, lists every month's rate to 2028 and then says, of December 31: "For NYE wedding, let's talk"8.
Some Venues Will Not Book New Year's Eve at All
Before you price a venue, check it takes December 31. Several do not. Zilker Botanical Garden in Austin, where the reception promenade sits under oaks and giant staghorn ferns, is "unavailable for rentals" on New Year's Eve under City of Austin rules9. The Oklahoma City Museum of Art, with its rooftop terrace over downtown and a 55-foot Chihuly glass sculpture in the lobby, is "not available for private rental" on New Year's Eve or New Year's Day10.
Others are booked by themselves. Hotels and estates sell New Year's Eve to the public, and the ballroom you want may be their party:
Oheka Castle, Long Island. The Gatsby-era château hosts only one wedding a day and seats 350 in its Terrace Room11. On December 31, 2026 it holds its own black-tie New Year's Eve Ball, 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., at $500 a ticket, and its guest rooms that night are "only available to event attendees"12.
The Chanler at Cliff Walk, Newport. A 20-room mansion hotel on the Cliff Walk that hosts up to 100 inside13. Its New Year's Eve 2026 is a public dinner and dance, 7 p.m. to 1 a.m., at $385 a person plus a 22 percent service charge and tax14.
Zephyr Cove Resort, Lake Tahoe. It offers weddings for up to 200, including aboard its paddle-wheeler, the M.S. Dixie II, and on December 31 that same boat runs its New Year's Eve cruise15.
None of this means no. It means the venue already knows what the night is worth, because it can sell it ticket by ticket. Ask early, and expect the quote to reflect that.
Can You Have a Midnight Countdown at Your Venue
This is the question that rules out the most venues, and almost nobody asks it until the contract is signed. A New Year's Eve reception has to run past midnight, at least for the toast, and many venues close before then:
Done before midnight. Aspen Hall in Bend, a park-district hall with a wood-burning fireplace lit November to March, ends at 11 p.m., and the rental packet says "This is not negotiable"16. Cheney Mansion, an Oak Park estate house run by the park district, ends at 11 p.m.17. At Pier B Resort on Duluth's harbor, "the reception must end at 11:45p.m., as we have guest rooms above the ballroom and must obey city noise ordinances"18. Contigo Ranch's hall closes at 11.
Ends exactly at midnight. The Paxton, Summerour Studio, Clementine Hall, and the Chicago Cultural Center, under the world's largest Tiffany glass dome, where "All events must end by midnight"19. You get the countdown, then the lights come up.
Open past midnight, for a fee. The Biltmore Ballrooms at $500 an hour, and Josephine Butler Parks Center to 2 a.m. on New Year's Eve, at $700 to $750 for each extra hour depending on which of its own pages you read.
Then check how many hours the rental includes. Summerour and the Biltmore include four hours of event time, the Chicago Cultural Center six. A reception that starts at 8 p.m. to land the toast at midnight fills a four-hour block exactly, and an earlier start buys extra hours.

What a New Year's Eve Wedding Means for Your Guests
Your guests pay holiday prices too. Hotels treat the last week of December as peak: the Islander Resort in Islamorada, in the Florida Keys, says holiday dates "including December 26 through December 31, 2026" may carry different cancellation terms than its usual 72 hours20. Set up your room block early and read its cancellation terms, because a room your guest cannot cancel is a harder yes.
Many guests also have plans of their own that night, and some will choose them. If you want to know how far attendance drops when guests travel, our guest math applies doubly here.
How many invited guests actually come when they have to travel
Finally, plan how everyone gets home after midnight, when taxis and rideshares are at their scarcest. A shuttle booked in advance, or a venue with rooms on site, removes the problem.
How to Price a New Year's Eve Wedding Before You Book
1. Ask whether the venue takes December 31. Some public venues close for it, and hotels may be running their own party.
2. Ask which rate applies. Saturday, a holiday fee, its own line, or "let's talk." Get the number in writing; among the venues above it runs $2,100 to $5,000 above an ordinary night.
3. Ask for the latest end time and the price of each hour after it. If the answer is before midnight, you cannot have a countdown there, whatever the photos look like.
4. Count your hours backwards from midnight. Toast at 12, last dance and exit after, dinner three hours before. That tells you when the reception starts and how many hours you are buying.
5. Add the beverage minimum, service charge and tax. A New Year's Eve beverage minimum is usually the higher one, and the charges sit on top.
How beverage and food minimums really add up
6. Book the guest rooms and the ride home. Lock in the room block with clear cancellation terms and arrange the shuttle when you sign the venue.
When New Year's Eve Is Not More Expensive
The saving exists where a venue has no holiday rule and the date lands on a weeknight. Cheney Mansion has no New Year's Eve line, so on Thursday, December 31, 2026, its published weekday rate of $2,900 applies, against $4,200 for a Saturday evening; the catch is the 11 p.m. finish21. That suits an afternoon or early-evening wedding that ends before the countdown and leaves guests free for their own celebrations. If midnight matters to you, you will pay for it somewhere.
New Year's Eve Venues in Other Cities
The pattern holds wherever you look: hotels and private ballrooms price the night as a Saturday or higher and sell it to the public if you do not, public venues either charge their normal rate or close, and most rooms in quiet neighborhoods close before midnight. Frequently Asked Questions
Are New Year's Eve weddings more expensive?
Usually, yes. Most venues that publish a rule charge New Year's Eve at their Saturday rate or higher, whatever day it falls on. The Paxton Ballroom in Omaha charges $3,400 against $1,300 on a weekday, and Josephine Butler Parks Center in Washington adds a $2,000 holiday fee to its peak Saturday rate.
How much does a New Year's Eve wedding cost?
The venue alone runs from $3,400 at The Paxton Ballroom in Omaha to $20,000 in rent and beverage minimum at The Biltmore Ballrooms in Atlanta, among the venues that publish the price. Food, service charges, tax, overtime and your guests' hotel rooms come on top.
Are New Year's Eve weddings cheaper?
Only at venues with no holiday rule when the date falls on a weeknight. In 2026, December 31 is a Thursday, so a venue like Cheney Mansion in Oak Park charges its $2,900 weekday rate, but it closes at 11 p.m.
Is a New Year's Eve wedding a good idea?
It can be, if your venue stays open past midnight and you invite early. Guests get a built-in celebration and the venue may already be decorated, but expect more declines than usual, holiday hotel prices and a harder ride home.
Can you get married on New Year's Eve?
Yes. The limits come from venues, not the law: some public venues, like Zilker Botanical Garden in Austin and the Oklahoma City Museum of Art, do not rent on December 31, and some hotels book the night for their own party.
What time should a New Year's Eve wedding start?
Work backwards from midnight. With dinner, toasts and dancing, a reception usually starts around 7 or 8 p.m., and many rental packages include only four hours, so an 8 p.m. start lands the toast at the end of the block.
What day of the week is New Year's Eve 2026?
Thursday. New Year's Eve 2027 is a Friday and 2028 is a Sunday.
Do venues charge extra to stay open past midnight?
Many cannot stay open at all, and those that can charge by the hour: $500 at The Biltmore Ballrooms in Atlanta and $700 to $750 at Josephine Butler Parks Center in Washington, which stays open to 2 a.m. on New Year's Eve.
Venue details reflect published information as of October 2026. Several venues publish no New Year's Eve price, and two of the rate sheets cover 2027 or are undated. Confirm current pricing, capacity and rules directly with each venue before booking.
